Pru Life UK empowers more Muslim communities in Mindanao with its Adopt-a-Madrasah Program

Pru Life UK expands its Adopt-a-Madrasah program, empowering more Muslim communities in Mindanao, as part of its Takaful journey.  The Adopt-a-Madrasah learning modules will be rolled out in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga.

In October 2024, Pru Life UK piloted its Adopt-a-Madrasah (Islamic school) program for three madaris in Davao City benefiting over 450 students and teachers with school materials. 

This year, the program aims to support 1,500 students and teachers in nine Islamic schools.

With international NGO ASSIST as its program implementing partner, the Adopt-a-Madrasah program aims to enhance capacity-building, financial literacy, climate and health awareness to foster resilient communities. The learning modules will include:

Pru Life UK reinforces market leadership, eyes continued growth in 2025

Pru Life UK has solidified its position as the leading life insurer in the Philippines, with its outstanding business results and strengthened commitment to providing affordable and accessible financial solutions to more customers and communities.

The insurer has the highest New Business Annual Premium Equivalent (NBAPE) at PHP9.8 billion in 2024, according to the latest Insurance Commission report. The company posted a 33% quarter-on-quarter growth in Q4 2024, extending its lead over its closest competitor to 8.87%.

Pru Life UK’s total premium income rose to PHP48.2 billion, up from PHP46.2 billion in 2023, while its risk-based capital ratio strengthened to 491%, up from 453% in the previous year. This robust financial performance underscores the company’s resilience and capacity to thrive amid market fluctuations.

“Our strong business performance reflects our commitment to addressing the evolving needs of Filipinos with the right insurance products at the right time,” said Francis Ortega, Pru Life UK’s Chief Financial Officer. “We remain committed to sustainable growth anchored on innovative and customer-centric solutions.” 

Some of the recent products that contributed to the insurer’s strong business are PRULifetime Income3, a limited-pay insurance that guarantees 5% annual payout and 200% lifetime protection and PRUMillion Flex3, a limited-offer investment-linked insurance plan payable in two years.

In 2025, Pru Life UK will expand its portfolio with new health and protection solutions to help more Filipinos achieve their financial goals. 

As the first Takaful operator in the Philippines, Pru Life UK is preparing to introduce its first affordable, Shariah-compliant Family Takaful product to meet the protection needs of the Muslim Filipino community. 

Pru Life UK’s Chief Customer & Marketing Officer Rozanne Magararu shared, “The trust of close to one million policyholders inspires us to protect more Filipinos.” She also shared that more than 11,000 claims amounting to PHP2.2 billion were approved in 2024. “This underscores the company’s commitment to fulfilling its promise to customers,” she added.

These results would not be possible without the dedication of its extensive network of more than 39,000 agents.

The company’s growth strategy also includes strengthening distribution channels through new partnerships this year.

Pru Life UK tops the life insurance industry in 2024

The insurer achieved Php 9.8 billion in new business premiums, ahead of its closest competitor by 8.87%

Pru Life UK continues to lead the Philippine life insurance industry, achieving the highest New Business Annual Premium Equivalent (NBAPE) of Php 9.8 billion in full year 2024 according to the latest Insurance Commission report. The company stayed strong with its 33% quarter-on-quarter growth in the fourth quarter of 2024, widening the gap to 8.87% compared to its nearest competitor. In particular, Pru Life UK is strong in Premium Income from Variable Life Insurance with a total of Php 46.1 billion and Renewal Premium Income from Variable Life Insurance reaching Php 36.2 billion.

Pru Life UK supports international and local disaster recovery initiatives

PRUVolunteers from Prudential joined in rebuilding homes in Sukhothai Province, Thailand that were affected by typhoons. 

Pru Life UK recently took part in recovery efforts for communities affected by typhoons and flooding in the Philippines and Thailand. 

In the Philippines, Pru Life UK extended support to children and their families recently affected by Typhoon Kristine by contributing Php 300,000 to Save the Children Philippines’ emergency response initiatives. The company also organised its in-kind donation drive for affected families in the Bicol Region, distributing essentials through the Project Banyuhay relief operations of the Rotaract Clubs of Rotary International District 3820.

Pru Life UK brings its climate and mental health resilience program to Cotabato City

Extreme weather events such as typhoons, floods, and droughts continue to threaten 60% of our land and 74% of the Philippine population. These climate-induced disasters hit rural and farming communities the hardest, disrupting livelihoods, destroying homes, and leading to increased mental health concerns. 

To shed light on these challenges, Pru Life UK facilitated a session for about 50 staff of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) in Cotabato City. The session focused on the critical intersection of climate change and mental health, emphasising the need for community resilience and practical interventions.

The session shed light on the growing psychological toll of extreme weather conditions, equipping attendees with the knowledge, practical tools, and strategies to help communities navigate the emotional and mental challenges brought about by these adversities.

Pru Life UK and Humble Sustainability join forces to champion responsible e-waste disposal and digital inclusion

Tackling climate change and bridging the digital divide, Pru Life UK has partnered with leading climate health technology start-up Humble Sustainability to redefine the future of electronic waste.

Through the principles of a circular economy, the partnership showcases how sustainability can create lasting social impact while protecting the planet.

As part of this pioneering collaboration, Pru Life UK’s unused company IT assets will be brought back into circularity by undergoing Humble’s reselling program with its extensive network of buyers. In its first month of the partnership, Pru Life UK has generated over Php 240K from its revenue share and is expecting additional batches of IT assets in the coming months along with devices and equipment donated by its employees. All proceeds from the sale will supplement the purchase of electronic devices to be donated to the company’s chosen community madrasahs (Islamic schools) in Mindanao as part of its Adopt-a-Madrasah programme.

Pru Life UK champions climate resilience with sustainability partnerships

Pru Life UK is stepping up its commitment to sustainability through strategic partnerships that help address the negative impacts of climate change and enhance community resilience amid worsening climate-related challenges.

Through the Climate and Health Resilience Fund (CHRF) that was set up by Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential plc across Asia and Africa, a Php 10 million grant was awarded to CARE Philippines to work with Pru Life UK for the rollout of the Sustainable Health Interventions for Eradicating Leptospirosis and Dengue (SHIELD) Project in target communities in Malabon and Valenzuela City.

Launched in March 2024, the CHRF is a USD 2 million initiative that aims to support local programmes that mitigate climate-related health risks and build community resilience in Asia and Africa.

Pru Life UK brings clean water and long-term community resilience to Bantayanons

In an uplifting effort to improve lives, Pru Life UK has launched the Ulan Alang sa Bantayan (Rain for Bantayan) programme, offering clean water and building long-term community resilience to residents of Bantayan Island, Cebu.

For years, families on the island have struggled with limited access to clean water, often walking long distances to fetch it. The Ulan Alang sa Bantayan programme has tackled this issue head-on by building two rainwater harvesting systems in Barangays Sulangan and Maricaban. Supplemented by the distribution of water containers such as pails and water jugs for each household, these systems will provide over 540 families with a 2,000-liter supply of clean water, eliminating the need for exhausting trips. Training for locals will also be conducted to ensure the facilities remain effective for years to come.
