Nurturing Health, Protecting Dreams: Sun Life Boosts Healthcare Access For Ofws And Seafarers

Protecting one’s health is a priority for many Filipinos. After all, it is key to achieving their goals and living their best lives. An illness can not only derail plans but also impact one's overall well-being and outlook on life.

This is especially true for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). They move abroad to make a living and support their families; however, they must also cope with living far from home and adapting to new cultures and environments. Should they get sick, it can disrupt their work abroad or it can be a possible reason for them to be sent back abruptly, which can have significant consequences on their finances, their family’s goals such as building their own house or business, and ultimately, derail their dream of coming home for good.

Sun Life Foundation promotes marine health with back-to-back coastal cleanups

Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation) scored a win for environmental sustainability with back-to-back coastal cleanups, organized in coordination with Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST).

Over 170 Sun Life volunteers joined the activities at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) and Barangay San Rafael in Noveleta, Cavite, collecting over 400 sacks of waste with a total weight of 2.264 metric tons.

Marine coastal ecosystems are essential resources for both humans and wildlife. Some of these such as the LPPWP, which is one of the few remaining mangrove forests in Metro Manila, serve as habitats to a wide range of endemic and migratory bird species. However, pollution and waste buildup are persistent problems in these areas, posing threats to wildlife, local livelihoods, and public health. Regular coastal cleanups such as this activity help mitigate these threats.

New Year, New Beginnings: Making Your Future Brighter This 2025

The New Year is always full of promise - a blank slate to create new goals, embrace positive changes, and nurture what matters most. While we often think about career or financial targets during this time, it is equally important to focus on overall wellness and the ways we can protect and care for our loved ones.

As you step into 2025, consider these ideas to ensure a balanced and fulfilling year ahead:

1. Prioritize your family’s future and wellness

A happy family begins with a healthy one. This year, focus on strengthening bonds and creating opportunities for connection, whether it is sharing family meals, scheduling time to unplug from technology, or exploring new outdoor activities together.

2. Align financial and health goals

While setting financial goals for the year, do not forget to align them with what truly matters. Saving for a dream vacation, enrolling in family fitness programs, or improving your diet are worthwhile investments into wellness and shared experiences. These are just as vital as balancing the budget or paying off debts, and they contribute to both your personal and financial well-being.

3. Find balance between growth and rest

The New Year often comes with the pressure to hustle harder and achieve more, but real growth happens when we make time to rest, reflect, and recharge. Balance is the key to wellness. This year, commit to setting boundaries—whether it’s making time for self-care or ensuring weekends are dedicated to family rather than chores. Taking care of yourself equips you to better care for those you love.

4. Focus on building a meaningful legacy

Wellness is not just about living well today - it’s about creating a life of meaning that lasts for generations. Financial security plays a vital role in this. Protecting your wealth nurtures opportunities for your children and their future. Whether it’s funding their education, helping them pursue their dreams, or teaching them the value of financial responsibility, these are gifts that go beyond material wealth to shape a brighter legacy.

5. Celebrate small wins and big moments

In the rush to meet goals, don’t forget to pause and celebrate. Every step forward—no matter how small—is a reason to be proud. Whether it’s learning something new, enjoying quality time with loved ones, or simply completing a task you have been putting off, these moments add up to a meaningful year.

As you prepare to welcome the New Year, consider securing your future and the things that matter most with financial protection solutions from Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. (Sun Life Grepa). From life protection matters to health-focused protection goals, you can find various solutions for your needs that your budget and lifestyle by talking to a Sun Life Grepa financial advisor.  Visit www.sunlifegrepa.com to learn more.
