Allianz PNB Life executive talks about digitalization in the insurance sector at Asian Banking and Finance Summit 2022

Allianz PNB Life’s Chief Marketing Officer, Gino Riola, joined some of Asia’s top bank executives and finance industry experts as a keynote speaker and panelist at the Asian Banking and Finance (ABF) Summit 2022. The three-day event was held last June 15 to 17.

The ABF has facilitated several virtual conferences in the last two years, such as the 2020-2021 ABF Retail Banking Conferences and the FSI Conference. This year, the ABF Summit aimed to explore the digitalization of the financial services sector, and cover pressing topics such as fintech, data analytics, and issues that may arise due to this new and rising trend.

Riola, together with the Director of Simon Kucher & Partners Chetan Prakash and Chief Technical Officer of Sompo Holdings Asia Aditya Vardhan Tibrewala, took part in a panel discussion moderated by ABF Publisher Tim Charlton about digitalization in the insurance space. Riola pointed out the low insurance penetration rate in the Philippines and emphasized how utilizing data and technology helps Allianz PNB Life reach more prospects and develop products that its customer base needs.

“Digitalization for us is extremely important in terms of reaching out to customers and prospects. It provides an avenue for stimulating, productive conversations with the customer, fostering interactions with them that are both timely and relevant,” said Riola. “Here in the Philippines, insurance penetration rate is 2%. Because of the pandemic, digitalization ensures that we have more effective ways of reaching our customers.”

Riola further explained how Allianz PNB Life also ensures that its current customers have access to their policies.

“We work very closely with our Life Changers or financial insurance agents, because they enable more effective conversations with clients,” he stated. “We want insurance to be a product that people [are not] afraid of. Through our agents, our customers can have access to all the resources they need to make informed decisions regarding the security of their future.”

Riola also briefly introduced the Vivy app, an all-in-one hub for every customer’s protection and health needs. The app marks Allianz PNB Life’s latest venture into digitalization, allowing the company to bring relevant protection and health content to its users. The goal of the project is to help customers learn about their own health conditions as well as the important role insurance will play in securing their future.

“Technology is a means to an end, not the end itself,” Riola highlighted. “It is a means of getting faster to the consumer, [and] also helps in terms of better understanding the consumers and the policyholders that we already have. We can then improve our services and processes, but more importantly, [develop] new solutions that when we created the product we weren’t already thinking of.”

Allianz PNB Life, Xavier School, and the Tzu Chi Foundation partner together for a cleaner environment

As a champion for sustainability, Allianz PNB Life teamed up with Xavier School and the Tzu Chi Foundation in a recycling activity that encouraged students to reduce and recycle the clutter in their homes and make proper waste disposal a lifelong habit. More than 15,000 kilos of recyclable material were collected for reuse or responsible disposal during the four-week period.

See a video documenting the clean-up efforts here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJnJuR2XNZ8

Xavier School President, Fr. Aristotle Dy, S.J., said, “Waste management is one of the most basic practices that needs to be pushed in a big way.” He tied this to the lesson of the church and the Jesuits that we must take care of God’s creations as they are a gift to mankind. “This recycling activity proposed by Allianz PNB Life was very timely in light of the transition to the need for a cleaner post-pandemic world.”

Allianz PNB Life reveals brand-new RideSafe Mural, upholds commitment to sustainable transport and health protection

Allianz PNB Life upholds its commitment to sustainable transport and health protection through the recent reveal of the brand-new Allianz Ride Safe Mural. The mural can be found at the Apartment Ridge Underpass in Ayala, Makati.

Prominent Allianz PNB Life executives like President and CEO Alexander Grenz and Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Sustainability Gino Riola were present at the unveiling, as were Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay, Makati Business Club Chairman Edgar Chua, AyalaLand Marketing Head Chrissy Roa, and LT Group Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Lucio Tan III. Other guests include Economic Counsellor of the German Embassy David Klebs, Cong. Jose Francisco Benitez from the Third District of Negros Occidental, Head of Makati Central Estate Association (MACEA) Engr. Getty Granada, and star athletes and Allianz PNB Life brand ambassadors EJ Obiena and Alyssa Valdez. Glendford Lumbao, the rising Filipino artist commissioned by the organization for the creation of the mural, was also in attendance.

“It’s a beautiful piece of art that really captures the depth of Ride Safe’s sustainability message,” said Riola. “Cycling is not just a lifestyle change that vastly improves people’s health. It also contributes greatly to the reduction of carbon emissions and vehicular pollution, and it encourages a sense of belonging in a community that shares in your advocacy. Seeing the mural, it’s a concrete reminder of all these things.”

Allianz PNB Life’s Ride Safe Mural project was done in partnership with AyalaLand, the Makati Business Club, and MACEA. The mural shows the organizations’ dedication to supporting initiatives that make a difference, as well as uplifting the work of local artists and their advocacies.

“I am so honored to be part of Allianz PNB Life’s sustainability advocacy, it is something I deeply care about and believe in, too,” said Lumbao. “The point of the mural is to make people, especially bikers and pedestrians, stop, look, and appreciate the beauty of the world they live in. Ride Safe is all about promoting sustainability through biking, so hopefully, the mural touches people enough that they start making little changes in their lives that will impact the planet in a good way.”

The Allianz Ride Safe Mural is not the first time Allianz PNB Life has shown its support, both for local art and sustainability. In 2021, Allianz PNB Life partnered with the City of Manila to install bike racks that were creatively designed to reflect the rich history and culture of locations like Rajah Sulayman Park, Kartilya ng Katipunan, and Intramuros.

Additionally, Ride Safe has birthed other sustainable projects, such as a solar-powered pit stop and Ride Safe Bike Lanes along Ortigas Avenue in partnership with the City of San Juan, and The BikeYard, a dedicated hangout place with bike repair facilities for cyclists in Bonifacio Global City.

Allianz PNB Life has also expressed plans to expand Ride Safe further to include skills improvement and livelihood opportunities through bike mechanic training.

“I am very thankful to Glendford for sharing his talent with us by creating such a striking mural,” said Grenz. “Likewise, big thank you as well to AyalaLand, Makati Business Club, the City of Makati and MACEA for coming together with us to make this project possible.”

“Art is a wonderful medium that we have used in the past to communicate the importance of prioritizing one’s health and taking care of the environment, first with the bike racks, and now through this mural,” Grenz added. “It is a creative and effective way of inspiring Filipinos to think about the state of the planet today, and encourage them to do what they can to secure the future, both on a personal level and on a large scale. I hope it touches many people and sparks a need for positive change.”

‘Your partner in life’: Allianz PNB Life promises a secure future for Filipinos

Filipinos have always had a tenuous relationship with health. The biggest reason for this is, simply put, poverty - many Filipinos do not want to burden their loved ones with the financial stress of dealing with health concerns, or they need to prioritize other things, such as basic necessities. Unfortunately, this means many ignore symptoms of illness, which may lead to serious complications down the road.

In 2021, 23.7% or 26.1 million Filipinos were reported to be poor, and this was primarily due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many were caught financially unprepared for lockdowns, or worse, their loved ones catching the virus and needing treatment. Filipinos could no longer ignore even the mildest symptoms out of fear that it may be COVID-19. Health and financial security became the biggest concern, and that led Filipinos to one of the things they used to overlook - insurance.

The Philippines saw an increase in people availing or renewing their insurance premiums during the pandemic. The Insurance Commission (IC) reported a 5.9% growth in total premiums, and this was because Filipinos were becoming more self-conscious about their health and being prepared for the future.

“It is very important to have one, especially at this time. You’ll never know when your health is at risk,” said one insurance user. “I've personally experienced borrowing money from friends because one of my family members got hospitalized and our savings was not enough.”

Many Filipinos are registered to PhilHealth. In fact, the organization reported in 2020 that it had nearly 95 million Filipinos covered by its insurance policies, whether as members or dependents. Unfortunately, that still leaves 15.2 million Filipinos without coverage, and even those who do, admit that they only have PhilHealth because it is an employment benefit.

Allianz PNB Life listed as top four among insurance companies in PH by Insurance Commission

Allianz PNB Life has been listed by the Insurance Commission as the fourth best performing insurance company in the Philippines in terms of Annualized New Premium (ANP) and Gross Written Premium (GWP) for the year 2021.

Allianz PNB Life’s 2021 ANP ranking is four places higher than the previous year, while the company’s GWP ranking rose three slots this year as compared to that in 2020.

Allianz PNB Life President and CEO Alexander Grenz congratulated the men and women behind the company, and said that the company will continue to achieve great heights in the future.

“We are honored to have been ranked fourth in the Insurance Commission’s list of top life insurance companies in the Philippines for our performance last year. As we are also the fastest growing life insurance company since 2020, our ANP sales have improved by 50 percent with an enhanced productivity ratio. This feat encapsulates our mission as a company: to always strive to provide Filipinos the most comprehensive policies with the best possible customer service to give them the assurance that their futures are protected with us,” Grenz said.

Grenz also urged those who are thinking about availing insurance to consider Allianz PNB Life as their partner in life.
